Constraints on Extended Quintessence from High - Redshift Supernovae
نویسنده
چکیده
We obtain constraints on quintessence models from magnitude-redshift measurements of 172 type Ia Supernovae. The considered quintessence models are ordinary quintessence, with Ratra-Peebles and SUGRA potentials, and extended quintessence with a Ratra-Peebles potential. We compute confidence regions in the Ωm0 −α plane and find that for SUGRA potentials it is not possible to obtain useful constraints on these parameters; for the Ratra-Peebles case, both for the extended and ordinary quintessence we find α ∼ < 1.1, at the 1σ level. We also consider simulated dataset for the SNAP satellite for the same models: again, for a SUGRA potential it will not be possible to obtain constraints on α, while with a Ratra-Peebles potential its value will be determined with an error smaller than unity. We evaluate the inaccuracy made by approximating the time evolution of the equation of state with a linear or constant w(z), instead of using its exact redshift evolution. Constraining the equation of state of the Universe from Distant Type Ia Supernovae and Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies
The magnitude-redshift relation for Type Ia supernovae is beginning to provide strong constraints on the cosmic densities contributed by matter, Ωm, and a cosmological constant, ΩΛ, though the results are highly degenerate in the Ωm–ΩΛ plane. Here we estimate the constraints that can be placed on a cosmological constant or quintessencelike component by extending supernovae samples to high redsh...
متن کاملConfronting quintessence models with recent high-redshift supernovae data
We confront the predictions of different quintessence models with recent measurements of the luminosity distance from two sets of supernovae type Ia. In particular, we consider the 157 SNe Ia in the Gold dataset with z < 1:7, and the more recent data containing 71 supernovae obtained by the Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS) with z < 1. We numerically solve the evolution equations for the Ratra-Pee...
متن کاملA new class of cosmological quintessence models
We propose a new class of quintessence models in which late times oscillations of a scalar field give rise to an effective equation of state which can be negative: wφ ≤ −1/3, and hence drive the observed acceleration of the universe. Currently favoured values Ωφ ∼ 0.7, ΩCDM ∼ 0.3 inferred from observations of high redshift supernovae can be easily accommodated by our model. A novel feature of o...
متن کاملDirect reconstruction of the quintessence potential
We describe an algorithm which directly determines the quintessence potential from observational data, without using an equation of state parametrisation. The strategy is to numerically determine observational quantities as a function of the expansion coefficients of the quintessence potential, which are then constrained using a likelihood approach. We further impose a model selection criterion...
متن کاملQuintessence Cosmology and the Cosmic Coincidence
Within present constraints on the observed smooth energy and its equation of state parameter wQ = P/ρQ, it is important to find out whether the smooth energy is static (cosmological constant) or dynamic (quintessence). The most dynamical quintessence fields observationally allowed are now still fast-rolling and no longer satisfy the tracker approximation if the equation of state parameter varie...
